Really Good Tool: Digital Oven Thermometer
Have you taken a look around the site yet? I’ve got a tab along the top labeled “Recommended” and it goes to a list of books and tools that I recommend from Amazon.com.* I’m filling it up slowly but surely but the first thing I put in the tool section was this digital oven thermometer.
Any time you are going to be cooking meat, a digital thermometer can be a real lifesaver. I don’t like to cook meat without one. Most are programmed to set off a ringer when the meat reaches the desired temperature. If I know I want a steak medium rare, I can poke that into the thickest part of the steak and it will tell me exactly when it is finished. Foolproof, really.
I like the thermometers that don’t have the coil exposed. This one pictured has it covered. I don’t know if the Pampered Chef ones cover their coils anymore but the one I had from years and years ago had it exposed. Some people like to use their thermometers for brewing beer and working with other liquids so the unexposed coils work much better for that purpose.
It’s my birthday so tonight I’m giving away a $100 gift card to Amazon.com for one of my Facebook fans and/or newsletter subscribers. What are some of the things you would buy if you win? Any kitchen tools or cookbooks?
